Love this guy - sure it’s an Aussie ratings system, but that might be better than U.S. ...

I think its perfectly all right that cars are receiving a better rating for crash prevention systems, but we need to remember that in the end all that tech can only prevent the crash, not handle it.

Ah, this guy. Yeah, I just discovered him a few months ago. I find him kind of grating (WWAAAAAAYY??), but he’s well-researched and can smell BS a mile away. I get a lot out of his videos.

Those are variables that, I imagine, are difficult to distill into one crash rating. If I’m a better driver than average without crash prevention, do I do better than another drive with the aides in place? It’s all variables.

I think that a car should receive three ratings
Crash avoidance
Crash response
Average safety
Lets say that the Stinger has a five star response but a 0 star avoidance, then it gets 2.5 (which rounds up to 3)
But if the stinger has a three star response but a 5 star avoidance, then the average should top where the response ends, thus it would be a three star car.

Why are anarcho-capitalists so concerned about the Stinger’s safety ratings?

So what you are saying is that crash safety is becoming worthless as unnecessary computer nannies drop you two whole stars instead of just one.

Perhaps the rating themselves are less useful, but I don’t know enough about this to do anything other than speculate. But I think Cadogan’s a good expert.

yea, less useful is a much more accurate term.

The other thing is, there are only so many ways they can crash a car. If you get t-boned or have an offset crash like in the tests, it should perform as advertised. On the other hand, a different sort of crash could turn out better, or perhaps much worse. Some days I’m glad I live in the city.

I don’t know. “crash avoidance” seems like it should be a completely separate test.
